The Road Not Taken

“The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is the story of one man’s journey through life and the decisions he has to make. He comes up to two roads diverged and had to make a choice that he would once look back at. He would either regret or love the decision for the rest of his life. Not knowing where either road will take him he looks down both and makes a decision. I believe that the message behind this poem is that one day in everyone’s life we are going to have to make a decision not knowing where it may lead us. Choosing that road isn’t meant to be easy, and isn’t meant to be the right decision. Sometimes the hardest things in life are the things that matter most. A good example of having to decide which rode to take is when you are going to college and do not know which one to attend. And another may be when you have multiple job offers and one may be away from home so you don’t know what will be best for you. I believe that sometimes you just have to go with the flow of things because you cannot decide how everything in life is supposed to be it just has to play out and the beginning of that is making a decision, and not having a clue of where it will lead you.

  1. The poem consist of four stanzas. In the first stanza, the speaker describes his position. He has been out walking the woods and comes to two roads, and he stands looking as far down each one as he can see. Stanza two, he reports that he decided to take the other path, because it seemed to have less traffic that the first. The third stanza continues with the cogitation about the possible differences between the two roads. Stanza four explains those who interpret this poem as suggesting non-conformity take the word “differences” to be a positive difference.

  2. Basing off Cadet Gonzalez's blog she has a good grasp on the concept that Frost is trying to portray. The paths are different and could bring multiple things along with them. One path may be tougher and have the better outcome. The other might be the easy way out, yet the future is dim. Life has alot to do with the decisions we make everyday, whether or not it was the "correct" or "right" decision can only be told with time. It will not always be easy and it will not always be worth pondering over. Everyday many of us look back into our pasts, regret or smile, but in the end those smiles or frowns made us who we are today. Personally, I say take the tougher road. Remember that forgiving is not weakness, but never forget nor regret the past because at one point, that was what you wanted.

  3. I enjoyed CDT Gonzalez's commentary on this work. She applies the laid back but important nature of our choices in life and how the choices we make as humans can affect us immediately, down the road, or not at all. I also liked how she applied the real life aspect to her opinion. The choices we make as young adults in the workplace have so much to do with our futures in that company or organization. I agree with her on her opinion that we must make decisions and live with the after affects of the decision. She has a great grasp of the poem and has offered great commentary that is to be appreciated by all.

  4. Cadet Gonzalez not only has a good knows what the poems about but also goes deeper into it. The poem is about two paths and each could drastically change your life, it's just a change you have to take. Gonzalez understands that choosing is the hard part because you want to make the right choice bu are afraid to make one incase it's the wrong one. But I also feel that you can't think to long because you will overthink it and never decide until you have to and just be quick about the decision. But hopefully it would be the right one.

  5. I agree with Gonzalez. Choosing which path to take can be difficult if you dont know where they lead or what may come out of each decision. Everything in life has its consequences and praises in the same aspect. One path can take you on a wild ride of twists and turns and may put you in the place you want to go and the other will take you straight to someplace else. Choosing one over the other is the hard part. If you choose the wrong path, one will think that they made a wrong choice and have to deal with it or they may just accept the fact that they were wrong and attempt another path. Either way the choice still remains and one has to live with the outcome.
